We built our house on the “east side” and have been here for a year and a half. As with any neighborhood we have our complaints, but the biggest consensus among residents is that all our parks have been shut down because they’re falling apart. They’re just sitting there and rotting with seemingly no movement on rebuilding. Our HOA fees are essentially keeping the cafe in the clubhouse open. The cafe is great, but nothing is free to residents. We are literally paying to keep it open lol. Anyways, thank you for reviewing our neighborhood and highlighting all the good things it has to offer! 🥰

Hi, as a defense contractor for MacDill AFB who will retire after the 8 year contract ends, could you tell me where to move if I want to get a 3 bedroom for 250k. I don't care about living in the suburbs....distant exurbs are fine. I am already commute hardened from living in a DC exurb. Other family had a house built in Ocala for 250k but that is just too road warrior for me. I don't care about socializing, things to do, or HOA(s) at all. I do want to move to a safe area though. Is this possible? FWIW I am not 50 yet but want to move from up here with 250k and try to pay whatever I buy off down there. Thanks

I need help.I can't decide where to go. I know I want to be in the Tampa area. But I need to also know that I will be able to find gainful employment.

I previously lived in Westchase in Hillsborough County for a year before moving to Tarpon Springs last spring and definitely agree that it feels as if you're living within the city limits of Tampa. Now I don't consider myself living in Tampa but in Tarpon Springs, because as you detailed each of the coastal towns have their own main street and "small town" vibe. Throw in the Pinellas Trail linking up Tarpon Springs, Crystal Beach, Palm Harbor, Dunedin, Clearwater, etc and the contrast between Pinellas and Hillsborough becomes even further apparent. Also agree that Pasco County has more of a redneck vibe, you can see it once you're north of E Tarpon/Keystone Rd. Depends on where you are though, as the areas near water access are beautiful, well maintained and landscaped. Not so much so in the areas around US 19.

I love Tampa and St Pete but I live in downtown St Pete. I wouldn’t want to live in downtown Tampa. St Pete is much more walkable,hip and only 15 minutes from the beach.

Tampa is so much better and more to do. An $11 Uber or bike ride get's you where you want to go. I like the big city vibe and I'm a sports fan. Rays tickets are very affordable and you get to see your home team if you're from another state. The parks are also world class. St. Pete is cool too but it get's boring after you see the same places on central over and over.

Buy a home around Anona and the flood issue is relatively less than the rest of the city. Most if not all of the neighborhood is non evacuation zone too.

I lived in Palm Harbor off of Curlew for 35 years. Used to be a couple rough bars in the late 70s into late 80s. Left that area in 2015. Too many people. I live way out in the country in Ohio now. Wouldn’t trade where I live now for anything down there. I’m glad to see they cleaned up the Main Street area. I remember when the Gay Community moved into the store fronts and buildings back in the mid 1990s. They came in and really did a great job with downtown. I’m not gay and could care less but they did make Dunedin a very nice and attractive water front town

How is Bartow Florida? Would you recommend moving there?

I guess you're favoring more Tampa than St. Pete. I'm considering buying a land to build, not too cheap, not too expensive, but in a reasonable area and not in a subdivision with HOA.

Heat is like living “on the sun”….unlivable, intense and dangerous. Horrible climate. Terrible place to live.

Cost of living is low to people who make NY or VA salaries. If they can transfer them here great but salaries here have not kept up with all the other increases - insurance, rents, homes, etc.

Being in flood zone X means not a flood zone, so that's why you're not required to have flood insurance.

Florida also has a "personal property tax" on vehicles. It's called an annual license tax based on the weight. Values <$25k are exempt. So, tax, tax, tax is the name of the game in Florida.
